Big Savings!

We are so excited to announce that we will be joining in on the huge site-wide Teachers Pay Teachers Back to School Sale on August 18th-19th! This is such a great opportunity to grab any items on your wish list for an awesome price!

All of our products will be 20% off and if you use the TPT promo code: BTS13 you will get 28% off everything in our store!

Have you checked out our store recently? We’ve added some fantastic new resources this summer. Our biggest selling items this month have been all about behavior. We have over twenty themed behavior charts available and a set of editable behavior charts!

We had so much fun creating these colorful Special Days Calendar Cards! When you purchase calendar cards from a teacher store, you typically get a couple of holiday cards but they do not even begin to cover all the “special days” like book buddies, field trips, or early release days! Our Special Days include 168 cards and cover nearly every special day possible. As always with any of our products, if you would like us to add something additional to this pack we would be more than happy to accommodate to your needs.

If you missed our fabulous August Facebook Frenzy last weekend, then you missed out on grabbing this fun paper bag book activity for the beginning of the year. This is a great way to get to know your students – but it is also a fun reminder to pull out at the end of the year to see how much your students have grown and changed. We have included directions on making the paper bag book and guarantee it is simple! The book creates ten pages on the inside if you use all of our inserts.

This is the best time of year to grab our Magic School Bus resource. So many teachers use and see the value in these fun and educational videos, but some concepts are hard for students to pull from the story line. We created this with those wandering minds at heart! After watching all 52 episodes we created a note-taking page for each one. There is also a little extension activity included for each episode. We know the price tag is a little higher on this resource, but it is definitely worth the money! Normally you pay $0.39 per episode, but with this sale each episode will only cost 28 cents!

We’ve been diligently working on our Classroom Job System. We’ve seen many teachers attempt to delegate jobs to students and seen their plan backfire. Essentially the success of setting up classroom jobs is all about approaching students in a way that makes sense to them. We have spent the summer researching and developing a way to introduce jobs and build a working community in your classroom.

This weekend we’ll be posting more about the philosophy behind our job system and how to set everything up. Here is a sneak peak at the upcoming product!

Tell us one thing from our store that is on your wish list and why in the comments below. We will choose one person at random to win their wish-listed item today! Be sure to leave your email address in your comment so we can contact you if you win!

1/2 Way Through February Already!?

We have been MIA for almost two months now – we are so sorry! Things have been busy around here lately and the dusty old blog just wasn’t a top priority.

Just because we haven’t been blogging doesn’t mean we haven’t been creating! We’ll be uploading a set of fantastic spelling task cards soon and have some great ideas on the horizon.

What is everyone doing for Presidents’ Day? Most people get Monday off – or at least with no kiddos. Will you be teaching about the holiday on Tuesday? Throughout the week? How in depth will you be going? We’d love to hear what is going in your classrooms!

Also, we noticed even while we were away we gained some followers. We’re six followers away from 200… that means we will be prepping for another giveaway!

Have a great weekend!

Running a Giveaway + An Awesome Giveaway!

We get a lot of questions asking for help with giveaways. We’ve put together a quick picture tutorial for those of you who are new to setting up a giveaway. Rafflecopter has been our giveaway generator of choice. If you use a different site, please let us know so we can check it out!

Step 1: Go to

Step 2: Choose the free option or decide if you want to pay a monthly fee. {The upgraded features are new and limit your free options a little, but the free tool works just fine!}

Step 3: Sign up or log in

Step 4: View your dashboard, you can start a new giveaway, view giveaways starting soon, and giveaways that are completed – click on plan one now

Step 5: This is the screen you will see when starting a new giveaway. Fill in the title of the giveaway – no one will see this but you, so a nickname or description of prizes works well.

Step 6: Fill in your prize. You can add multiple prizes if needed, it’s best to put the title of what you are giving away. The add a picture feature is an upgrade, but you can always share a picture on your blog post.

Step 7: Choose your options on how entries can be earned. Again, not all these features are available with the free giveaway plan, but there are ways around that. Since you can create your own option, things like pinning to Pinterest can still be used – you’ll just have to specify the entries need to be verified by leaving the URL

Step 8: Pick your date range.

Step 9: Write your terms. Rafflecopter used to do this automatically, but it seems to be an upgraded feature now. Briefly put the basic terms of the giveaway (when it occurs, who can enter, how the prize will be delivered, etc.)

Step 10: Get the code! Then you can post it on your blog or FB page

Congrats if you’ve made it this far! We will write more about giveaways next Q&A Monday – more specifically how to stay organized when running a multiple donation giveaway.

Since we set up a giveaway to make this tutorial, you all have a chance to win our Jan Brett Winter Book Units.

a Rafflecopter giveaway

If you don’t want to take your chances on winning this awesome unit, our store is having a 20% off sale right now, and if you use the TpT 10% promo code in combination, you will save a total of 28%! Just click on the picture below to hop on over to our store.

Meet Taking a Walk on the Teaching Side!

We’ve got another awesome teacher-author to share with you this week. Kristin is the lovely lady behind Taking a Walk on the Teaching Side. She is all about family and friends down in Georgia. Kristin loves sketching, nature, cupcakes, travel, and exercise. Due to the job market, she is currently a substitute and tutor, but she is very antsy to get back into her own classroom. Much of her family are teachers (even her husband) and she was previously a Title I teacher in Atlanta.

Kristin knew from a young age that she probably wanted to be a teacher. She grew up around educators – her grandma, grandpa, and mom. Through the years she witnessed how important education was and placed a lot of value on her own education. However, she did not officially decide to become a teacher until she began college.

Kristin enjoys many things about teaching. She likes working with the students and seeing their transformations from the beginning to the end of the year. She also loves the fact that teaching is never boring or monotonous – things change from to day to day and you never know what to expect. Even though it can be stressful, like many, Kristin believes the rewards outweigh the negatives. Kristin found it hard to choose just one thing she enjoys most about teaching, but she really likes the creative aspect.

Being creative is what has led her to Teachers Pay Teachers. Kristin has a great store with 98 products! Her favorite item she has created is Dee Dee the Dodo Book. This is an original book she wrote and illustrated in a college class. She now sells this as a supplement for extinction lessons. Not only does she love the story, but so do students. The story helps them learn about extinction and the effects humans can have on the environment.

Kristin shared her Common Core Writing Prompts with us this week. She created these prompts because she wanted to give teachers a way to provide their students with fun and engaging writing ideas that were aligned with the Common Core. The fun shape comes for Kristin’s experience in making cupcake toppers. These cute informational, narrative, opinion, and creative prompts can easily be glued to Popsicle sticks.

We previewed a set of 40 prompts. Kristin has three small sets like this in her store and also a bundled set with all the writing prompts. Our set came with 10 prompts for each category (informational, narrative, opinion, and creative).

Each prompt looks something like this. The prompt types are color coded and also state what type of prompt it is at the top (beneath the ladybug). Some prompts are silly, like creating your own ice cream flavor. Other prompts, like the one pictured above have real life implications.

One of our favorites was this oneit will really get your students thinking. Plus, anyone can write about this who attends school. Everyone will have differing opinions and the background knowledge to go along side of them.

And… just for fun, we asked Kristin if she could be any fairy tale character, who would she be and why?

Alice in Wonderland. I had an Alice dress when I was a kid and would watch the Alice Through the Looking Glass 1980s movie version just about every day. Wonderland is just so whimsical!

Be sure to stop by Kristin’s store and blog for some great resources! She is even having a sale today!

Don’t forget to stop by the giveaway, you’ve only got two days left to enter!

Are they worth the time and effort?

We’ve got a question for all our lovely readers today. Many of our teacher friends participated in Tara’s “Monday Made It” over at 4th Grade Frolics during the summer and we are curious… how many of you have created crate seats?
There are quite a few versions floating around Pinterest. Here are a few that we have found.
The regular crate seats…
A crate bench…
And gallon seats… a little twist on the idea.

Have you created crate seats for your class?

We love the cute patterns and colors you can add to your classroom, while providing extra seating for your kiddos. Have you found that your seats last long enough to justify making them?
Don’t forget to stop by our giveaway to win some awesome prizes!
